Our Mill, Where it all Began

Our story began in 1723 and a lot has happened
since. Much has changed, but we’re still weaving with
passion and personality from the same little mill where
it all started.

Avoca took its name from the charming village of
Avoca in County Wicklow. The fast flowing water
of the river Avoca powered The Mill, the original heart
of the business. Ours is the oldest working woollen
mill in Ireland.

At the beginning, wool was sourced from sheep of the surrounding valleys and, through a process of carding, spinning, dyeing and weaving, it was transformed into clothing and blankets for barter and sale. Today we are proud to continue the tradition of weaving using techniques and skills perfected over generations.

Today, as we look to 2026, Avoca has grown into something
wonderfully expansive, so much so that it can no longer be defined by just one thing. From our
iconic throws, still woven in our Wicklow mill, to our ceramics, homeware, socks, scarves, and a
wide range of distinctive products, we have created a truly unique retail experience. Everything
we create is designed with care by our in-house designers and united under the Avoca name.
